It has been revealed that while the Queensland Government spends hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars promoting road safety, each year more than twice the number of Queenslander’s take their lives than die on our roads.

In a sad indictment on our society, the grim statistics simply can’t be ignored and last year 14 in 100 000 people committed suicide in Queensland compared to the road toll for the same period at 6.35 per 100 000 people dying on our roads.

However, Beyond Blue spokesperson Nicole Highet said while proper government funding was important, everyone could play a part in suicide prevention.
